SUMMARY:OPENING RECEPTION | Message From The Threads | Fiber Arts Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Just like last year\, Bernadette Fernandes of Busywork Craft Supply and I are organizing a fiber arts show to take place in her shop!\nOpening Reception will be March 13 6-9pm with light refreshments and drinks by Ravendark Cocktails. The exhibit will run through March.\nFrom our curator\, Teryn Brown:\n“The process of intuiting + clairvoyance + meditation resulting from practicing handiwork and repetitive craft. \nSitting quietly with your hands busy\, letting thoughts flow and take you to secret\, intangible realms\, or giving insight into life and our relationship to it. \nThe communicative properties of fiber art throughout history into modernity\, i.e. woven fibers as storytelling\, the relationship between modern computer graphics/ processing and textile weaving\, fashion & fiber as communication- esp underground styles or subversive adornment. \nThe diverse and long lineages of fiber arts & handicraft\, passed down through generations of craftspeople. I like to imagine that artist’s DNA is encoded with the genetic memory of generations and generations of craftspeople in their family trees\, thousands of hands that have threaded metal and bone needles\, stitched and sewn clothing\, woven and spun fiber stories to adorn their families\, homes\, & communities. \nTruly there are an eternity of messages and stories being told through and with fiber. It’s a long\, tangential conversation\, replete with loose + abandoned threads\, interwoven with subjugation and ingenuity- a tangled mess that skilled hands can transform into beautiful\, wearable\, decorative\, and utilitarian artworks.” \n“Message From The Threads” will be on view in conjunction with the yearly Bay Area Yarn Crawl\, as well as several fiber art themed + focused workshops\, events\, and gatherings we have planned during the duration of the show.

SUMMARY:Mini-Mart Pop-Up
DESCRIPTION:For Bay Area Yarn Crawl\, this year like every year (last year and this year) I will be popping up at BUSYWORK CRAFT SUPPLY!\nI love a mini-mart. When you need a bit of joy\, there’s nothing like a very small store full of major snack brands to fill your heart with color. The Fiction Fiber Mini-Mart pop-up at Busywork will mimic this delicious hue-haven. Only instead of Nabisco\, I’ll be stocking the shelves with natural fiber\, non-Superwash yarn which I will have hand-dyed on eco-friendly\, often organic\, sustainably and ethically milled wool bases. This pop-up will truly be one thousand chips delicious.
